The deal could bring more workplace catering to Uber Eats. For drivers deciding which app to open for the lunch rush, the rollout details are still missing.
What Uber and ezCater announced
On October 6, 2026, Uber and ezCater announced an agreement for Uber to acquire the workplace catering platform for $2.3 billion in cash. At the announcement, they expected the deal to close in the coming months, subject to regulatory approval and other closing conditions. As of November 4, GigVerge could verify the agreement but could not confirm a closing date. Read Uber’s announcement.
An office manager can use ezCater to order lunch for a meeting or arrange recurring team meals. Uber says it wants to bring that kind of group ordering to Uber Eats and connect it with the employers who already use Uber for Business. The companies reported an average ezCater order value above $400. That figure describes what the customer orders. The announcement gives no corresponding courier payout. Read ezCater’s release.
What this means for drivers
Uber expects new earning opportunities for couriers. The announcement gives no city-by-city launch dates, driver eligibility rules, or pay schedule. It also leaves open who will deliver orders already booked through ezCater. If your local delivery partner sends a change notice, check which markets and pickup dates it covers before changing your schedule.
For a catering offer you can accept today, compare the displayed pay with the whole job, including driving to the restaurant, loading trays, parking, finding the recipient and completing any requested setup. A large order can still be a poor fit if an office handoff runs into your next scheduled pickup.
