How ezCater Relish orders work and why the tip can change before pickup

A 10:30 a.m. pickup can look different at 9 than it did when you accepted it. On an ezCater Meal Program order, formerly called Relish, the first meal count and tip you see can both be estimates. Here’s how to read the offer and plan the handoff.

One office stop, many individual lunches

A workplace picks its meal days, sets a budget and designates a drop-off spot. Employees choose their own food from the scheduled restaurant. The restaurant packs and labels meals by name, and the selections travel together as one group delivery. For a driver, 25 lunches can mean one office stop with several bags to carry. Employees get a message when the food arrives.

ezCater uses third-party delivery partners. Read the offer in the app that assigned the job. That’s where you’ll find your pickup time, delivery instructions and the amount offered to you.

What can change one to two hours before pickup?

A driver notice shared with GigVerge says the order starts with an estimated headcount. It puts confirmation at around 9 a.m. on delivery day. As the meal count settles, the restaurant’s food subtotal can change. The tip shown to the driver is also an estimate and may update with the final headcount.

For example, a 9 a.m. update for a 10:30 a.m. pickup lands 90 minutes before pickup. That’s how you can see the amount change one to two hours beforehand. A different pickup time gives you a different window. On the employee side, ezCater says many restaurants close ordering about 2½ hours before delivery, with the exact cutoff set by each restaurant. That deadline tells employees when to finish ordering. Your driver app determines when you see the update.

Which number should you use? The food subtotal is what the meals cost. The employer’s delivery fee and optional tip are separate charges. The notice says earnings on the offer it describes will hold or can rise when the tip is finalized. Check the wording on your own offer before counting on that protection. A larger food subtotal alone tells you little about what you’ll take home.

What makes a Relish run worth taking?

The upside. A designated drop-off and individually labeled meals can make for a quick handoff. The notice says buffet setup is usually unnecessary. If you already know the office entrance and where you can unload, you can judge the run by the pay shown at acceptance. Any later tip increase is extra.

The tradeoff. The mileage can stay exactly the same while the work grows. Six bags instead of four might mean another elevator trip or more time at a loading dock. A larger tip is possible, but you still have to decide whether to reserve that lunch slot before you know the final count. Include parking, restaurant wait time and the walk back to your car when comparing this job with another offer.

From the pickup counter to the office

Before leaving for pickup, reopen the offer. Check the latest meal count, pay, pickup time and delivery window. Bring insulated hot bags as the notice requires. If the updated load exceeds what you can carry, contact dispatch before you leave the restaurant.

At the counter, match the order number with restaurant staff and confirm the number of bags, sides and drinks. A meal count alone won’t tell you whether the drinks are in a separate box. Keep labels readable and sealed meals closed.

At the workplace, use the designated drop and on-site contact. If reception sends you to a different floor than the app lists, confirm the handoff location. Arrange the meals so employees can find their names, then complete the delivery in your app after the food is in place.

The around-9 a.m. update, hot-bag requirement and earnings protection described above come from the driver-facing notice shared with GigVerge.
